*Jammu-Srinagar Highway Closed Amid Fresh Snowfall, Landslides*

No traffic will be allowed on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday due to fresh snowfall and landslides, officials said.

Roads in Bannihal sector turned slippery following fresh snowfall, while there were some landslides in the Ramban stretch, a Traffic Department official said.

“Priority will be to ensure that no vehicle gets stranded and all vehicles parked or abandoned at various places on the highway are cleared,” he added.

The decision to suspend traffic on the strategic highway was taken after the Met on Wednesday issued advisory of rain and snowfall in the state.

Assessing the weather and road condition, vehicular traffic was suspended early on Thursday.

The highway which is the lifeline of essential supplies for the landlocked Kashmir Valley, has remained closed for over a dozen days in January due to landslides and snowfall along the nearly 300-kilometre long road.

Weather was expected to improve from Friday onwards, the Met said.(IANS)

Budget session of Parliament begins today

NEW DELHI: The Budget Session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on Today with President Ram Nath Kovind addressing the joint sitting of members of both the Houses of Parliament.

The session is set to end on February 13 and will be last of Narendra Modi-led government which came to power at the Centre in 2014. It is expected that the Budget session will witness some noisy moments as the government will try its best to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and the triple talaq bill.

It is to be noted that Opposition has always shown reluctance in getting these bills passed and it is highly unlikely that they will change their strategy this time.

Pakistan to observe February 5 as Kashmir Day :

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 30:

Pakistan is set to observe Kashmir Day on February 5 as a mark of protest against the “government of India’s reluctance to solve the burning issue”.

“‘We are organising Kashmir Day in Pakistan on February 5 and we will invite all political parties of Pakistan and will support the Kashmir cause’ — this is what Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told me over phone,” separatist leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Wednesday said, while addressing the media in Srinagar.

Farooq spoke to Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi over telephone on Tuesday (January 29). According to a statement issued by the Pakistani Foreign Office, the two talked about the Kashmir issue.

Qureshi said that his government was trying to highlight the “human rights violations” being perpetrated by India.

In response, India said the action reflected “duplicity” in Pakistani leadership’s intentions.

“We want a peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir issue and Pakistan is also willing to resolve it through peaceful dialogue,” Mirwaiz Umar Farooq added.

The Kashmir issue should be seen as a political issue, and not a developmental one, he said.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said, “Kashmiris are upset because of the aggressive policies adopted by the Central government of India.
They are responsible for pushing the Kashmiri youth towards militancy.”

On the main issue, the political dispute of Jammu and Kashmir, on which talks and deliberations should be held, “there was never any clarity on that”, he added. Stating that Singh’s statement was not based on fact, Mirwaiz said that the Hurriyat and Joint resistance Leadership (JRL) had stated on record that “we want to engage and we want to see a political solution to this problem and we have always maintained that we want to engage with both India and Pakistan”.

On the Centre’s special representative Dineshwar Sharma’s attempts at holding talks with the Hurriyat, Mirwaiz said, “This exercise is not going to yield anything because in the past also we have seen interlocutors and special representatives coming and giving their reports.

All these reports have never been taken up by the Government of India.”
He hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would revisit that policy but that never happened, and it was clear that the government wanted to use military might and suppress the voice of the people.

Mirwaiz cautioned that by completely isolating and trying to marginalise the political players, the Hurriyat and JRL, “what they have done is that they have left that space open.

That vacuum has created a situation where people have lost hope of any political movement forward. Dialogue has become a word people have lost trust in.”

India has always maintained that the issue of Kashmir is bilateral and there can be no third party intervention in the matter.

India has also emphasised that what happens in the state of Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter and Pakistan should stop interfering.

After dry cold wave, expect rainfall from January 30: Met :

New Delhi, January 27:

Expect light rain and thundershowers in the national capital after Tuesday with a slight increase in the minimum temperature which will subside cold wave conditions and make the weather pleasant in the city, the Met said on Sunday.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature on Sunday dropped to 5.2 degrees Celsius and it is likely to remain the same on Monday. However, it will be biting cold on Tuesday as the minimum is expected to drop to 4 degrees Celsius which is 5 notches below the season's average temperature.

"There will be shallow to moderate fog on the mornings of Monday and Tuesday. Cold wave like conditions will also prevail in some parts of the city which will keep the maximum temperature at a low - around 19 degrees Celsius," an IMD official said.

From Wednesday or January 30 to February 1, the Met has forecast light rain and thundershowers in Delhi which will slightly increase the minimum temperature to 8 or 9 degrees Celsius.

"As clouds cover the sky, the minimum temperature will slightly increase by a few notches but the maximum might hover between 19 and 20 degrees Celsius," he said.

Such weather conditions are bound to increase the pollution levels in the city with the Air Quality Index (AQI) expected to turn 'very poor'.

The overall air quality in Delhi on Sunday was recorded at 262 (poor).

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), air quality is likely to deteriorate towards the "lower end of very poor during the next two days as cold wave conditions are looming large".

"These cold wave conditions will tend to slow down the wind speed which is helping in the dispersion of pollutants since the last two days.

Gentle fog is now mainly confined to early morning hours. AQI may slowly deteriorate during the next two days but it might improve with rainfall," the agency said in its daily pollution analysis.

The AQI in Gurugram at 202 and in Noida at 220 also dropped to the 'poor' category on Sunday, against Saturday's 'moderate' yet improved air quality. (IANS)

✅ *Underground hideout where 3 militants were killed pulls crowds*

⚫๐Ÿ‘‰ ```Thousands of people Thursday thronged to the site of an underground hideout in an orchard near Binner village of Baramulla where three Lashkar militants were killed on Wednesday.

Men, women and children were seen visiting the place to have a glimpse of the hideout in which the three militants were killed.

The small hideout with a capacity of not more than four people has an air pipe on top of it. It has a small space where the hiding militants would attend nature’s call.

“The sort of hardships that militants face can be realised only after seeing this hideout,” exclaimed Bashir Ahmad, a local of Binner village.

A top army official while giving details about the operation said it was a clean operation based on “human intelligence”.

He said during the entire operation the specific location of the militants was not clear to the forces. “However, the impressions of shoes on the snow proved a lead to the exact location of the militants’ hideout,” he said.

“The village area was cordoned much earlier by the security forces. However, the exact location of the hideout was a little issue. One of the factors which led to the exact location of the hideout was the impression of shoes (of the militants) on the snow,” said an official of the army, who was part of the operation.

Suhaib Ahmad Akhoon, a Lashkar commander along with his two associates, Mohsin Mushtaq and Nasir Ahmad Darzi were killed during a gunfight on Wednesday.

They, according to the police, were the last surviving militants of Baramulla town.

Earlier, two militants, Javed Ahmad Dar and Akeel Ahmad Sofi from Khanpora Baramulla were killed during two separate encounters with the government forces at Amargarh, Sopore and Athoora, Kreeri of Baramulla district in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

The trio killed on Wednesday were wanted militants in the Baramulla district and were “face of LeT outfit,” police said.

*Resolve Kashmir issue, so that no one even thinks of joining militancy*

_What happened to claims once made about south Kashmi becoming militancy free?_

*Governor’s statement contradicts police’s claim:Er. Rasheed*

Kupwara 24 January: Reiterating that Kashmiris are against all sorts of violence, AIP President Er. Rasheed has said that contradiction between claims being made by police and governor over killing of militants is quite imminent. In a statement issued today Er. Rasheed said “While Governor Satpal Malik claims that he feels pained by killing of militants and militancy cannot be eliminated by killing militants but security agencies are not only celebrating the killings but have claimed that Baramulla district has become militancy free. Kashmiris need peace than anyone else and are against death and destruction but as Governor has rightly said that militancy comes from the brain, as such the claims made by police regarding making Baramulla militancy free carry no meaning. Those claiming Baramulla to be militancy free now are misleading New Delhi for their pity interests without realizing that counting dead bodies triggers more violence and motivates people to join armed struggle. Police needs to be reminded that it had declared south Kashmir too militancy free few years back but what has been happening in south Kashmir since last few years is not hidden to anyone. While Army has been on and often claiming that whosoever goes near encounter sites or participates in funerals of militants is a militant, going by that definition every Kashmiri should be a militant in the books of security agencies”. Er. Rasheed added that while Governor Mr. Malik in first part of his statement confesses the truth but again contradicts his statement in the same breath by praising security forces for killing militants. Er. Rasheed said “Let there be no doubt that no one including militants would want to lose their lives, but the circumstances and New Delhi’s constant betrayal has made Kashmir a battle field, where some are enjoying deaths and others are mourning funerals. Governor must collect the courage and tell Prime Minister the same thing what he has been observing on the ground and should make it clear to New Delhi that there is no military solution to seventy year long political problem, whose nature has been accepted by the entire world community including India and Pakistan at the United Nations”. Er. Rasheed added while Governor is technically right that police and security agencies are performing their professional duties by killing militants but both security agencies and the political establishment in New Delhi should realize that the issue is not killing militants but resolving J&K dispute forever so that no one even thinks of joining any militant or underground organization.
